Cleaning your Keyboard - PC Maintenance
Keyboards can get extremely dirty, But luckily cleaning them is a simple
operation. First shut down your computer and unplug your keyboard. Start
by holding your keyboard upside down and press the keys, this should
release much of the dust trapped around the keys.
Many people suggest using a cleaning solution to clean built up grime
off the keys, the problem with that is cleaning solutions can also remove
the printing on some keyboards. A much better method is to grab the
dish washing detergent and place a drop into some water, to make a weak
solution. Take a cloth and place it in the solution, then squeeze away
all the excess water. You want the cloth damp not wet, you don't want
water running off the cloth in between the keys.
Finally grab your vacuum cleaner and using the smallest attachment you
have, run that over the keyboard, pressing the keys as you go. This
is the only cleaning job with a computer I suggest using a vacuum cleaner.
All other cleaning jobs use anti-static compressed air. Vacuum cleaners
can build up static and as such can damage your computer with ESD. Check
your local computer shop for keyboard cleaning attachments for your
PC. These attachments allow you to get right down between the keys and
extract all the dust.
