Universal Naming Convention - UNC
Any computer that shares resources must have a network (computer) name,
also resources they share must have a network (share) name. The resource
is described by combining these names. You can share folders, drives,
and printers.
The computer name is normally selected during install of the operating
system but can be changed later in the System Properties box by
selecting the Network Identification tab then selecting Properties.
The share name is normally selected when sharing the resource and can
be found by right clicking the shared folder and selecting Properties
and the the Sharing Tab.
To share a printer is just as easy, just locate the printer in the Printers
folder you wish to share, select the Sharing tab.
A UNC is written starting with a double backslash, the computer name,
a single backslash, then the share name. So the UNC for the above is written
as;
\\WILLOW\ALLDATA
Note: some systems require capitalisation of the computer and share name.
