The Print Screen Key

Ever wondered how people capture an image from their screen and make it into a file such as a bitmap or jpeg, to display in documents of some kind, such as a web page or Microsoft Word document? Its really quite simple, you use the Print Screen key. Using this key you can capture computer screens for use in documents. You find this key just to right and slightly above the Backspace key. There are two ways to use this key. You can either capture the whole screen or a single window that is currently the object of focus. To capture the whole screen to the clip board as in the image below, simply press the Print Screen Key.

To capture the window that your currently focused on (working on) as in the image below, press and hold down the Alt key then press the Print Screen key.

You will now have either the whole screen or the focused window in the clip board. Now all you do is open your favorite image editor such as Photoshop and paste it there. Photoshop will even select the correct new file size to match the data in the clip board. In the new file hold down Ctrl and press V keys to paste the image from your screen there.

In summary:
Alt + Print screen = captures the window your currently working on.
Print Screen = captures the whole Screen.
Ctrl + V = Pastes the captured image to your file.

Note: The Windows key on a Windows Natural Key Board can also be used in conjunction with the Print Screen (Windows + Print Screen) to capture the desktop.
